Cleansing Full Moon Ritual

Learn how to embrace this time of powerful lunar transformation and release

This Sunday the 5th, at 12:44 U.S Eastern Time (4:44 UTC) we are going to be experiencing a Full "Buck" Moon in the sign of Capricorn. This full moon also happens to coincide with a lunar eclipse, meaning that the moon will pass directly behind the earth to put the moon, earth, and sun in perfect alignment.

For those of you who may be new to the importance of lunar phases, let me explain:

The moon has a heavy affect on water. It pulls waves out of the ocean, creating tides and currents. Given that we are 80% water, it's safe to say we would be affected by the moon as well. Many of us experience changes in emotion, energy levels, life direction, and even experience physical changes that correspond with the phases of the moon.

If you want to see how you are personally impacted, keep a moon journal. Record how you feel, what is happening in your life, and anything in particular that stands out. Keep track of the moon phase on each day and compare patterns after many cycles.

Lunar rituals are important because they allow us to completely embody the energy of the moon and surrender to the energy as it attempts to transform us.

When performing a ritual, it is always important to distinguish whether the moon is new or full, given that they both present very different types of energy.

New moons are a time for new beginnings; a time to set new intentions. They mark the end of one complete cycle and the beginning of the next: we have completed the descent and are now ready to begin the climb once again, but this time with a new focus.

Full moons, on the other hand, are a time for release. The moon has reached it's peak energy and is beginning to phase down. Full moons are therefore said to be a powerful time for completion and as we reach the top of the mountain and begin the descent. At these times, it is important to focus on releasing extra baggage so you can finish out the lunar cycle with clarity. Figure out what hasn't been working and redirect.

It is also important to understand which zodiac sign the lunar phase will be occurring in. This gives us insight into what we should be focusing on and what types of changes may be happening.

This June 5th, the moon will be in the sign of Capricorn.

The Capricorn sign is guided by the energy of hard work and persistence. Therefore, during this ritual, our focus will be on releasing anything and everything preventing us from fully reaching our goals and utilizing our potential. We will release all negative thoughts, mental barriers, fear, and doubt that have preventing us from our achievements. We will tune deep into the intuitive whisper and focus on the guidance we are receiving.

This full moon comes at the perfect time for us to release all the extra energy we have carried over from the beginning of 2020 so we can make room for new end-of-the-year energy.

Again, this full moon will be peaking at 12:44/4:44. The angel number 44 asks that you pay attention to your intuition and inner wisdom. It brings a message that you are being surrounded by helpful, loving angels who are encouraging and guiding you.


Follow the ritual below on night of the 5th to fully experience the power of the moon and the transformative energy it provides us.

This ritual can be followed for any full moon but I will be adding specific details to align with the Capricorn sign.


1. Set up your space

Clear your space and make sure you have a nice, clean area that feels relaxing and comfortable.

Light a candle, sage smudge stick, or start a diffuser if you have any of those.

The following are powerful for this moon (surround yourself with/use these items if you choose):

Essential oil: Eucalyptus

Tea: vanilla

Crystal: labradorite (a useful companion through change, imparting strength and perseverance)

2. Clear your mind

Now that you've cleared the physical space around you, take some time to clear out your mental space. Breathe, relax, and meditate if you must to release any distracting/negative thoughts. Use a guided meditation if you like or simply focus on the flow of your breath.

3. Express

Journal. Write down everything you are intending to release; anything you feel is bothering you or that is holding you back. Describe with detail to further enhance the releasing process.

4. Heal

Now take some time to visualize yourself healing each of these issues. Picture yourself overcoming them and transforming them with love and light. Send healing energy to every problem, every person, and every situation. You can also repeat positive, healing mantras here if you find that helpful.

5. Release

Now that you have come to peace with the issues, it is time to release them. You can visualize yourself cutting ties with them, pushing them away, popping a bubble, or releasing them like a balloon- whatever works for you. You can also burn, rip up, or shred the paper you wrote on if you want to physically symbolize the release.

6. Final Cleanse

Take a relaxing bath or shower to cleanse your physical body. Add some special herbs, rose petals, or essential oil to the tub. Pamper yourself by moisturizing your skin in coconut oil when you're done. This time for energy-cleansing is so important during this Full Moon in Capricorn.
